Plagiarism and Academic Misconduct Policy
I hope students find the resources on this website useful. It should go without saying, however, that when using material on this website, any site linked from this site, or any site period, students are expected to adhere, completely, to the Rockford College Academic Honor Code. Plagiarism and cheating of any kind will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Please see the Student Code section of the Student Handbook (available from the Rockford College website) for a full explanation of plagiarism and academic misconduct.
If you are ever unsure if a situation falls under academic misconduct or not, consult me or another professor prior to turning in the work.
If you turn in a plagiarized paper, exam, assignment of any kind, or any other product of academic misconduct, this will result, at my discretion, in a failing grade for the entire course, appropriate college authorities will be notified, and disciplinary procedures will be initiated.
Some common examples of academic misconduct:
- failing to use quotation marks when using a direct quote.
- failing to cite properly the source material one has used.
- closely paraphrasing someone else’s work without proper citation.
- working with other students on assignments when instructor has not granted explicit permission to do so.
- allowing another student to use or copy your work (even if you don’t copy his/her work).
Remember: if you can find it on the web, so can I.
